How often do you change your sheets?

And be honest!

We change our sheets every 2~ish weeks. Of course there are variables in there which may make them get washed in a shorter time, but 2 weeks is our average. We occasionally accidentally skip a washing and the sheets stay on for a month, even more at times! (gross, eh?) But my sheets just aren't on the top of my list in cleaning items. They should be though - the thought of sleeping in tons of dead skin cells grosses me out.

I just washed my bedspread and when I went to put it on my bed, I changed the sheets, thinking it's been 2 days short of 2 weeks. I come out in the living room and my husband asks me "did you just change the sheets?" After I told him I did, he informed me he just changed all the sheets on all the beds last night. And I didn't even notice! (you know why? I passed the hell out on the couch last night and SOMEONE didn't tell me to get off the couch and go to my bed. Yeah, just let the girl sleep on the couch and not in her own bed. ~grumble~)

I don't know what I'm thinking about more - I'm bummed that I "wasted" new sheets on only 1 day old sheets ~or~ he changed the sheets on my bed in the first place!

So -

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?
question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?
question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?

My answer --- I use a method to rotate all of my sheets so they all get used the same amount. I put the just cleaned ones at the bottom of the sheets stack and I use the one on top for the next sheeting, so I'm always going through them all, one by one. Seems normal that that's what most people would do, but now I'm thinking, maybe it's not!

(baby thing mentioned.... )

Karl's been a poopin' machine in the last few days where I am changing sheets and mattress pads 1 to 2 times each day. And today, he had such a morning blowout that as I was taking off his footed jammies, he had poop all down his leg and into in between his toes! I wiped off all I could (basically, all the chunks) with wipes and then off into the bath he went. Actually, he got a quick shower first because I didn't want to make him sit in shitty (literally) water. Gotta love those baby baths at 6:45am!

(end baby thing)

Back to the sheets - don't forget the questions!

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?
question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?
question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets? Once a week every sunday. If I travel and come home on a saturday or sunday, they wait until the next sunday.

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job? I strip and he makes the bed.

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? The ones that are clean go on the bed. I try to rotate my two sets but sometimes that doesn't happen.

No, it's not gross that you don't change them more often. If I did not sleep with a guy who sweats in 30 degree weather why I freeze by butt off, they would get changed less.

1. We change our sheets about every two weeks. We don't really have any set schedule so they get changed when we remember. Sometimes that means they are on the bed much longer.

2. I usually have the job of changing the sheets since laundry is my job. Sometimes my husband will pitch in though and change them.

3. I have no specific system for rotating the sheets. They are all just stored on a shelf in our closet and grab and pair I can reach. (I'm pret ty short and the shelf in our closet is pretty high.) I try and use them all equally, but I'm sure some of my favorites get used more. I like your idea of rotating them. I might have to try it.

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets? Every month maybe more I dont have a schedule, or if they get dirty sooner. Im to busy to do it more frenquently

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job? I wash the sheets, he puts them back on.

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person? __Didnt occur to me to have more then one that matches my set. I just wash and then put on the bed. Sometimes we forget to put in the dryer so we just sleep on the mattress for the night. Gross huh? Guess I will get another sheet.

My husband showers every night b4 bed otherwise I would change more often. His pillow is so stinky I have no clue why. I think he sweats all night long. lol

1. Probably every two weeks or so. Definitely not once a week!

2. I probably change the sheets most often but Hubby will do it as well.

3. Hubby will wash and then put right back on which I've never really understood. I have a weird rotation system. We have six pillows and four sets of sheets so I've 'matched' two sets of sheets so the pillow cases for those two sets will always be used no matter which set of sheets is used. So - I've matched the red sheets and the yellow sheets. When I use the red sheets, I'll use the pillow cases for both sets but when I change the sheets, I switch to the blue and cream set of sheets. I'll may use the blue sheets but I use the pillow cases for both the blue and cream sheets.

Whew. No wonder Hubby just washes them and puts them back on! I've made sheet changing quite complex.

#1 we was the sheets every Sunday.
#2 we both wash them... just whoever gets to them.
#3 we only use the one set. Just wash them that day and put them back on before we go to bed!

#1- No clue. Feeling pretty gross because it's probably once a month- if not more! It's never even ~on~ my priority list, much less near the top... This only applies to my own bed though- the guest room sheets are changed every time someone comes to stay & her sheet gets changed pretty often.

#2- He does the laundry (mainly), but I strip & replace the sheets. Since I really don't care (gross, huh?!) he usually has to prompt me to change em which then can take a few days to actually get done.

#3- we actually have a ton of sheets so we ~should~ be able to change em more. I do have seasonal sheets & only one set of flannels, so they get changed more often in summer when I have 2 or 3 cotton sets.

Poor baby! That's another area that I am eternally grateful Caiden has not had that experience too often. Pre-rinsing the poop off before a bath. Yum!

#1- We change them every 7-14 days. I try to do it every week but it usually ends up being every other sunday because I ~hate~ changing sheets.

#2- I do it. DH doesn't even think about doing it. We do have a cleaning lady once a month and I leave the sheets out for her to do at least once per month since I hate it so.

#3- I have a system similar to yours, but our stupid linen closet is also our bathroom toiletries storage area so there is very little room. I get one shelf for all of our sheets. Sometimes I too lazy to pull out the whole stack and reorganize it so I just put them on top and try to remember to not use them the next time.

kimbosue said...

1. Every 3-4 weeks, sometimes more, sometimes less.
2. Typically the husband does since he works from home, he'll throw them in when he has the time. We put them back on together.
3. Also have a stack and will take what's on the top. Unless the husband is picking them and he will get his favs. (He hates the microfiber ones.)

Miles had his first poop-bath yesterday. Can you say pajama blow out?

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets? my answer is the same as yours - about every two weeks with occasional long or short stretches.
question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job? it is usually my job but he helps
question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person? right now, I'm a clean them and through them back on because my kids have sheets that match there bed sets

oh, btw, sadly I was reading the section about Karl as I was eating breakfast

question #1 - My goal is once a week, but it's probably more like every other week.

question #2 - All me

question #3 - I take all the sheets, ours and the kids, wash and put them right back on. We have our winter sheets and our summer sheets. The kids only have one set. The crib sheet is the one that may get washed in between if it gets dirty.

Sadly I never really thought about having two sets and just rotating. Not a bad idea...

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets? When my husband is home (which has not much been in the last 3 years), we change them every week. When it's just me, it's every 2-4 weeks

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job? I usually do it because of question 3, but he will often help.

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? I have a rotation system similar to yours. My husband will wash them and put them back on the bed. I don't like to do that, because they get worn out quicker.

Ugh! I hate the blowouts - we had to have careful rationing of fruit and juice to make sure my daughter didn't have constant blowouts. She had them anyway when she was an infant, but once we added solids, poop consistency was our main focus. She'd either be constipated or overly loose. My only 6 am baths, though, were due to vomit.

1. I change ours every week, although I will admit to the kids' beds sometimes going two weeks. I figure they have baths before bed every night--how dirty can they get?
2. I do the kids' sheets myself, but DH helps me put the sheets on our bed.
3. We have two sets of sheets per bed. I usually take the clean set from the linen closet, but sometimes I will take them off the bed, wash them and put them right back on. I love the fresh-from-the-dryer sheet smell!

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?

Every few weeks when I think about it, unless they get dirty in between.

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?

My job, if I ever want it to get done. It would probably be once a year if I left it to my hubby :)

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?

I only have two sets for each bed. The clean one goes on the dirty one goes to the hamper.

Elana Kahn said...

1) I change 'em whenever they start to get icky...Once every couple of months? I know, I'm lazy.

2) My hubby does it. :-)

3) We use the "plop" method. Which ever sheets you pull out of the stack are the ones you use. lol

Christina said...

1. Whenever they're visabily dirty, I know that's bad!

2. My job, he'd keep them on the bed for a year if I didn't do it.

3. We only have 2 sheets for our bed so I rotate them. We only have white sheets because I have a weird thing with bleaching everything.

Geochick said...

Question #1 - About every two weeks give or take. Tends to go longer rather than shorter tho'.

Question #2 - Husband does the laundry, typically though I'm the one who remembers to strip the bed. Either one of us makes it.

Question #3 - Not much of a system although I ended up with like 3 or 4 sheet sets somehow so I have way too many!

Geochick said...

OH, and ewwww on the blowout. Since I won't be bf'ing I'm kind of glad I'll be avoiding those to some extent.

The Captain's Wife said...

Glad you are equally as scuzzy as me! It almost seems like one of those things you just don't fess up to...

question #1 - Generally every 2-3 weeks

question #2 - I do it, but usually when i do it, it is like 11:30 pm and a work night so I ask for his assitance to speed up the process.

question #3 - I have 2 sets of flannel and 2 sets of cotton, so in the winter I rotate between the two flannle, summer=cotton. Makes it pretty easy. I buy 2 new sets of each every 2 years or so.

My mother on the other hand. She is a bit compulsive and changes and washes her sheets at least once a week if not more!

Carrie said...

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?
Once a week - though sometimes I feel like I should do it more often because hubby sweats like crazy and it totally grosses me out.

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?
It's all me. He'd never even think to do it, though if I ask he will help me put them on.

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?

My goal is to always triple make our bed, but usually it's double made because he works midnights and I never seem to get the dirty set washed, dried and put back on before one of us needs to go to sleep.

It goes regular mattress pad, fitted sheet, flat sheet; waterproof mattress pad, fitted sheet, flat sheet; waterproof mattress pad, fitted sheet, flat sheet.

When the top set is dirty, they come off and go in the hamper. If I think there's a possiblity that I'll be able to get them washed and put back on within a few hours, I'll try, but usually that doesn't happen. The second set is already on and ready to go so I don't have to rush to make the bed.

If by some random chance I don't get around to washing the dirty set and the second set gets dirty (sweat, puke, baby spit up/pee/blowout, muddy footprints from animals), the second set can come off and there's yet *another* clean set underneath! It's my emergency back up set :)

Kasen's crib is double made - fitted sheet, waterproof mattress pad, fitted sheet. I love double making them so that way if he pukes or has a blowout in the middle of the night, all I have to do is pull the top sheet and mattress pad of and can lay him right back down. I HATE making his bed - it's so hard to get the sheets on and I always end up scraping my knuckles.

Did anyone see Oprah a few years ago talking about how her maids put clean sheets on her bed every day? She was shocked that not everyone does that. Ah - to be rich and famous and sleep on clean sheets every night and not think anything of it.

I have to use my favorite sheets. So I throw them in the wash first thing when I get up, and try to get them done (before I forget and it's bed time) asap. Which usually is easy since I'm ALWAYS doing laundry.
If I have a set I quit using, it goes in the pile of sheets for the guest beds. And I wash those sheets after every use. I don't worry about rotating them, I could care less.

1) I'd say we're a 3 weeker or so.
2) Hubby actually does it more often than I do.
3) We have two sets of sheets for our king bed (they're expensive!), so normally we put the clean ones on while the other ones are in the wash.

Misty Dawn said...

1) DH won't let the sheets go w/out washing every 2 wks. If he is feeling spunky he will wash them every week.

2)For some reason ever since I worked 2 jobs, DH got used to doing the laundry. Thats the one thing he does now. But he always enlists me to help him make the bed so I don't give him all the credit.

3)DH can't stand to fold sheets so he cleans them and puts them back on warm and fresh. When these get tired and old we will use new. We do have 2 other brand new pairs that don't get used unless there is an emergency like no water to wash or the dry breaks, which btw never happens.

I agree, I'd have to wash a baby in the shower after that before the bath. Ick to bathing in poop.

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?

About once a week. Depends on the amount of... face time.. the bed gets. :) Usually every Sunday it's changed out for the sanity of it's occupants.

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?

We do it together, it seems to be a partner thing for us, we talk, and just hang out together, it's nice!

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?

I have two sets of sheets and when I put one on, the other one goes downstairs to be washed. Every week the sheets and comforter get washed and put in the closet!

My sheets about once a week. Baby sheets seems like every day. Older kids every 2 weeks.

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?
LMAO! No he doesn't help it is a "womans" job.

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?

I wash and put them right back on the bed. I have several other sets, but they just do not fit as well so I don't bother.

1: Monthly. I know, I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it... but it's the dirty truth!

2: I am the one who thinks to do it - but he'll do the job once I get it started.

3: We are a wash 'em and put 'em back on the bed family.

Coincidentally - I washed the sheets this morning and then logged on this afternoon to see your post! What timing!

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?

Umm...when they start to smell?? Seriously though probably too long. We both take a bath at night does that help? DH does sweat a lot and I'm extra sensitive to smells so I'll change them if I smell anything from sweat...it doesn't take more than a couple weeks.

question #2 -

We both Change the sheets together. He usually washes them.

question #3 -

I grab whatever is there. DH has a few favorites he likes.

Jenera said...

Well, we only have one set of sheets. And it's the same set we've had since we got the bed four years ago, lol. I have been wanting new ones but we have a california king and the ones I want always cost an arm and a leg.

My hubby has NEVER changed the sheets. But since he only sleeps in our bed once a week, I'll cut him some slack.

I wash our pillowcases about twice a month, more during the summer or if we are sick. But the sheets get washed maybe once a month unless it's needed sooner.

Liddy said...

Oh geesh!

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?

Twice a WEEK. I know obsessive but there is something about freshly clean sheets.

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?

If I wanted the sheets changed twice a week, I was responsible for it. So it is my job all the way from strip to making.

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time?

We have a khaki pair which is the first part of the week. A navy pair for the last part of the week.

Do you rotate them out?

See above

Do you use a method to rotate all of them?

See above

Do you just use your favorites?

I have a third set but they are flannel so they only go in the mix in January when it well below zero here.

Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?

If we are in the flannel stage yes. If we are not, rotate away!

Kaci said...

question #1 - how often do you change your sheets?
* I change them about once a month. Probably not often enough, but we almost always shower before bed so we're not putting all the day's ickiness there. The children's sheets get changed more often and I rotate theirs.

question #2 - does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job?
* I usually take them off, wash, and dry them. He will help me fold them & put them back on the bed.

question #3 - how do you know what sheets to put on the next time? Do you rotate them out? Do you use a method to rotate all of them? Do you just use your favorites? Or are you a clean em and throw them right back on the bed type of person?
* I almost always wash them & put the same set back on. That way I don't actually have to fold them :)

I hope Karl is feeling better now.

question #2 - Neither! One of us strips the bed, I wash them, and when dry, pile them on the bed for the cleaning people to put on. It's my luxury, but it saves my sanity.
question #3 - I am a clean and put em back on the bed kinda gal.

#1: How often do you change your sheets? We change them once a week, every Friday.

#2: Does your husband/partner change the sheets or is it your job? It's catch as catch can. Generally, I prefer to do it myself, since I get the sheets smoother and I do hospital corners. DH just kind of flings things around.

#3: How do you know what sheets to put on the next time? We have 2 sets, so the clean sheets go on and the dirty goes in the wash to be put on next week.

It's not gross if you don't change them more often than you do; I just love having clean sheets for the weekend.

Every 4/5 days. people who say every 2 weeks to a month are nasty. simple, every day, sweat an dry skin stay on your sheets. not racist, but i bet 90% of the people commented are white.
