Laundry

I just don't see how it's possible to have so much laundry. My mother had 5 children and did the laundry once a week. I do a load or two everyday and I never seem to be ~done~.

How do you keep up with your laundry?

I have my husband do it!

I can't figure out how I can do laundry for 3 people in 3 loads on a Saturday, while he's doing laundry EVERY DAY!

I have a 3 bin sorter that I seperate into jeans- towels, pj's, undies- and one for good work cloths and shirts. I just do the laundry when the bin is full. It works for us right now but I'm sure once the baby gets here it will be harder to keep up with! Where have you been? You never post anymore!!

I do a load, sometimes two, on the weekends. I am sure that will increase once we have a new baby in the house.

Diaper laundry will also start once she is big enough to fit into them (4-6 weeks) and that will be every three days.

Oh, and I have two hampers in this little nook in the hallway (it's like, perfectly shaped for the hampers, LOL) -- one for light colored clothing, and one for dark colored clothing. I do the sorting because DH doesn't "get" it.

I have SIX laundry baskets dedicated to dirty laundry, each with a specific purspose -- towels, baby clothes, darks, lights, etc.
I do 1-2 loads almost every day or else it gets crazy.
Did I mention I have 2 kids, I'm not sure what people with more do!

I try and do a load a day. It doesn't always work out like that and I usually end up with 3 or 4 to do on the weekend. I go through our laundry and prioritize it. I also always try to do a load of towels or sheets or other "easy stuff" in between the clothes so I get stuff done but get a break from the monotony of folding and hanging clothes.

I seem to be doing a load a day almost. I don't get how I went from 3 loads a week to almost 7 loads a week just because of one little baby.

Fairly easy for me, living alone. In fact, I could probably take in other people's laundry as a hobby.
Even though I don't have the volume issues of others, I minimize the chore by:

1) only doing laundry when I am "out" of something and, even then, if I don't feel like it, I go with my backup plan to wear "in reserve" least favorite but clean stuff,

2) not buying any clothes that need ironing or which are okay as long as I pull them out of the dryer during the tumble cool down cycle,

3) almost never folding stuff except jeans,

4) usually not bothering to put clothes in my dresser(s)--they just get piled in a clean laundry baskets and I dig for what I need.

On that last point, it can make me look lazy when the piles get big but there's only me to complain about it, to me, and I usually don't listen to myself.

I keep the kids' clothes separate from ours and then ours is separated into colors and whites. I do laundry about once a week but that ends up being like 4-5 loads and then it sits in the baskets or dryer until the following week, lol.

i have 11 mo. old twins & #3 on the way, & the way i keep us with laundry is simple-- i don't. well, that's not totally true. we always have clean clothes, but sometimes they don't make it to the drawers. i figure "clean" rather than "put away" is the priority.

I try to do 1 load a day. JD likes to wait and do 1,000 loads at once (but he doesn't put the clothes away, just piles them on my side of the bed). Um, this is a point of contention, which I try to sidestep by throwing in one load right as I wake up on the way to the bathroom.

I am the lucky beyotch with a hubby who does laundry about every other day... ;)
but we sort into 2 big tubs next to the washer- one for colors one for whites. Pumpkin & I are total girls with significant wardrobes- if our laundry sits in hampers all week & gets done in one or 2 loads a week that is standard.
The hub's much more limited wardrobe requires much more frequent washing- so he will gather whatever is down in the tubs into a load when he does it. My job is typically the folding & putting away of my own & pumpkin's clothes. It usually hangs out in a basket for a day or two. I can't even imagine the volume I would end up with by adding another person- we seem to have a good equilibrium now & it can still pile up occassionally.

I was a once-a-weeker prior to kids and then for the first year or so of the girls' lives but now I get so frustrated at the piles that I usually do it 2-3 times a week, mainly to deal with the stains the girls get on their clothes at school.
The worst part is when you bring the empty hampers/baskets back from the laundry room and they are full again within hours, sometimes minutes. UGH!!!!! My husband thinks he helps...he will sometimes take care of the washing as long as I put it all up, which is the crappy part. Plus, he does NOT know how to separate (well, he knows how but doesn't want to do it...wants to get more bang for the buck and throw 'em all in together) so he does more harm than good. If I had someone to do my laundry full-time I'd be one happy woman.

The 2nd worst feeling, which I just experienced, is going to put clothes in the dryer and seeing that there is still a load in there from days ago...just waiting to be folded/hung but usually too wrinkled to matter. SUCKS!!!

I don't!

Downstairs there are two baskets of clean clothes to be folded. One load in the dryer that needs to be put in a basket. And one load in the washer that needs to be put in the dryer. And about 6 bras hanging up to dry that have probably been dry for days and need to be put away.

I gave up a long time ago on trying to be caught up on laundry. I figure why bother--you can get caught up and have it all done and the very next day the piles will start to grow again. So I try to keep it at manageable levels by mostly doing it on the weekends, while throwing in a load of towels or something one night during the week just to try to get something out of the way. I only have two kids--i can't imagine handling it with more.

Ha! We try to do it weekly, but then it ends up sitting in folded (or unfolded) piles on the couch for a day or two b/c it's so overwhelming!

I don't keep up either. If I wait a week then I usually have like 7 loads just waiting and it's too overwhelming. I like to do one load a day, but it doesn't always happen. 5 people go through A LOT of clothes.

LOL...I don't. I have loads to do today. UGH. I think we didn't have as much clothing when we were kids, so our parents had it a bit easier. I know I wore jeans and sweaters more than once before they got washed. With my boys, though, that's not a great option, since they get everything DIRTY! UGH.

We hang most of our clothes, and I used to take them out of the dryer, fold them, then take them to the various rooms and hang them. Now I just keep a bunch of hangers in the laundry room and hang them straight out of the dryer. It has solved a lot of my laundry issues. Also, my theory on why laundry is way harder for me than it was for my mother and grandmother(who only had one less kid than I do and my one more kid than I do, respectively), is that they didn't have wardrobes as large as the members of my family. We have way more clothes than I did as a child, and sometimes I let the laundry go a little longer than I should because of that.

Everyone in the house is responsible for their own laundry. (Bue we can be) except I do B's.
BB's laundry day is Sunday, I do mine throughout the week, and DH squeezes his in there somewhere (It's a lot more laundry for me now that I'm using cloth diapers).

I only do laundry on Fridays. It takes a while, but then I don't feel like I'm constantly doing laundry every day.
