23 hour observation.

We are being admitted for at least a 23 hour observation period. The half life of this med is super long and another kid, bigger and older than karl took 8 days to recover. I'm the worst mom.

This could happen to anyone. Kids get into things if you take your eyes off them for even a second and there is no way to constantly watch them.

Don't blame yourself. (((HUGS)))

Damn. I'm so sorry. You are not the worst Mom so pull away from that avenue of thought. Shit happens. And you cought this super fast and acted super fast. I hope the meds smoothly work out of his system and y'all can go home and get some rest. (((hugs))))

You're actually not the worst mom, you know. It could literally happen to ANYONE (and probably happens more than you realize). Besides, it's not like you fed him the pills...he took them by accident. My kids are CONSTANTLY picking things up from the floor and eating 'em. I have lead paint in my house (which I'm too poor to get removed), but I'm sure they've eaten paint chips that are lying around. But you know what? Their lead screens always come back low (1 or less). ad shit happens. But he'll be ok and never remember the incident (even if you will). And in many years from now, I'll bet you joke about it with him and say something like "well you're that way cuz you took drugs as a baby" (the way people say "it's cuz I dropped you on your head as a child"...same idea) I promise you WILL actually look back on this and laugh. He'll be ok with lots of hugs and kisses. (And so will you...)

Oh Nancy, I'm so sorry! Don't blame yourself, this really could have happened to anyone.

I hope you and he are both feeling better soon.

Oh Nancy! You're not the worst! Things happen, and with littles picking up everying in sight and putting straight to their mouth, this could've happened to anyone. In fact, my mom let one of the boys get her baby aspirin bottle to shake "like a rattle", and he opened it! He had pills in his hand when I looked over! It's not your fault. I'm thinking of you and sending prayers for Karl to get the meds out of his system as easy as possible. xoxoxox

Hugs to you, I can think of many moms that are WAY worse...trust me! It was an accident, and you have him in the right place.

Kira ate half of an ambien once off my bedside table! Talk about having a meltdown. I had it on the bedside table from the night before and never took it, she was running around my room and I turned and looked at her and saw she had something in her mouth...I found half the pill (10mg) on the floor at her feet and dug around her mouth until I got what I thought was the rest. I did not take her to the ER...was afraid they would take her away from me. I kept her awake for like 6 hours after that...it was the scariest 6 hours of my life.

Keep up posted on Karl please...

Nancy- you are an awesome mom- these things happen to everyone! It was an accident & you were able to notice it immediately which is wonderful. And doing everything right by calling poison control & getting him to the er.
I am praying for you all for a short stay and a quick recovery.

First off, forgive yourself. You are no different from any other mom in terms of "good" or "bad." You took a statistical bullet.

Second, I'm hoping that Karl's observation period goes quickly and without incident. My best also to your husband and girls. I'm sure something like this shakes up everyone.

Holding you in my arms, Nancy. You are a GOOD mom who had some BAD luck. May GOOD luck follow in the coming hours.

XO

Holy crap, Nancy! I'm sorry I missed your posts. My thoughts are with little Karl and you are NOT a bad mom! A bad mom wouldn't have cared to take him in. I hope he recovers soon!

Don't beat yourself up, accidents happen! I was just at Shiners burn unit because my little guy grabbed the iron and burnt himself. It happens so fast!

Nancy, I'm pretty sure the worst mom (which you're not) wouldn't have noticed that he got them. You were right there and got him appropriate care immediately. Thinking of all of you right now!

When my brother was 3 he got into a full bottle of tylenol while my mom was on the phone. My mom found him under the kitchen table with the bottle empty and just a few pills left on the floor. He proudly proclaimed that his headache was all gone. Shit happens and it happens all the time. Keeping you, Karl and the rest of your family in my thoughts.

I imagine I would feel the same way but poison control exists for a reason: because we all make mistakes! Be gentle with yourself! Big hugs and a speedy recovery for Karl!

You are far from a bad mom. Kids get into things all the time! Hoping you are home soon! xoxo

These things happen and have no bearing on your status as a mother! You're a great mother!

Sending good thoughts your way. Hope all is well.

I agree with the rest. This in no way makes you a bad mother. I cannot tell you how many kids I know of who have taken medicine they shouldn't. You are a GREAT mom for being aware enough of what your kids are doing that you realized it before he was no longer breathing AND you took him for help. You can't keep him in a bubble but you can be there with a hug and bandaid for the bumps and bruises in life. You are a GOOD mom, Nancy!!
