it's just so damned irritating.

Sitting here in my living room, windows open to feel the cool colorado night breeze, I am forced to listen to the constant bang of fireworks.

Awesome.

Why oh why do people feel it necessary to light them off days before the 4th of july? Even if I didn't have kids sleeping, I'm still irritated having to listen to it. And of course, they wait until it's completely dark, which is around 9pm, to set them off. Don't people understand that nighttime is when a lot of people are trying to relax and go to sleep??

Even when I'm not cranky from losing my job and being stressed out beyond belief - I still hate having to listen to it. Every year, each and every pop grates my nerves. Hey, I like fireworks too, I even bought a big bag of them today. Call me crazy, but I wait until the 4th to light them off.

And yes, I'll be the first to admit when I'm a humongous hypocrite. I'm complaining about this when at our last party, I was the one pushing my husband to light m-80s inside the crushed soda can to re-inflate it. But I will protest a little bit. The random firecracker is one thing. Everyone and their mom lighting off on after another on july 2nd is another.

You got laid off? What the fuck happened to your foot?

Shit...I'm way behind and need to catch up. I'm so sorry about all the shit you've been dealing with.

I'm so not against plastic surgery, but from what I've seen of your pix you won't need at lift at 40 sweetie!? Really? I think you look damned good. Of course, I'm planning a tummy tuck for next summer so who am I to talk?

Don't you think we need to go to Minneapolis to celebrate Pam's pregnancy? I'll email you about this. I also need your address.

Take care, momma.

XOXO

I don't like fireworks in general but the husband loves them. I had to bring the dog in early tonight because kids were setting off fireworks and he gets all worked up. And a worked up pitbull only scares the neighbors. I am happy with sparklers.

Heard on NPR last night that the Springs canceled their fireworks display in Memorial Park this year...Would you normally take the kids to that?

I just posted something a week or two ago about my red neck neighbors lighting off fireworks..WTF...why do they not care that I have a baby sleeping? Never mind the fact that it was still totally daylight (like 7pm)...waste of money..

I totally get where you are coming from! My poor dog is scared of them - and my neighbors begin lighting them a week early!

Ugh. I was so annoyed last night when the 'bang pop bang' started up and my poor dog started pacing....am not looking forward to tomorrow night. Why must they drag it out for days?

What? You mean 4th of July is not a weeklong event?

I'm not a huge fan of fireworks - I was spoiled growing up in Chicago. They take a barge full of explosives out onto the lake, so you don't have to see, hear, or smell the fireworks going off. That's the way I like it. Fireworks are (supposedly) illegal here, so it's not as bad as some places - fewer M-80s going off.

One time at band camp... no that's not me, but when I was 20 and living in some apartments in the big city, we lit of an m-80 and threw it in the parking lot (It wasn't me) and it blew the windows out of the surrounding cars (J was such an idiot for doing that! tee-hee-hee ::wink::)we all paid for it.
Note To Self: Don’t light m-80's near ANY windows.
So then we had a salute and lit it off behind chucky cheese w/no cars around.
Only the cops came, but no harm was done. We were long gone by then so they didn’t catch us.
Note To Self: The first big boom on a salute is just the lift charger .... KEEP RUNNING!!!

Oh-the good ol days when I was a little Shit. =P

I ♥ fireworks (at my convenience)

We own land in Nicaragua and they LOVE their fireworks there. They set them off EVERY NIGHT! Makes me crazy.
Maybe it's because they are illegal here unless you have a permit. The only fireworks set off here are the big ones for shows and what not.

Sorry you are stressed Nancy. Is there a possibility of a new job? There are still lots of jobs here. Consider Canada. We have wicked ski hills!!

ha! we are dealing with assholes and firecrackers over here as well- have been since the 2nd. My poor dog needs anti-anxiety meds.

heh- in my hood they light of fireworks when the fucking philly's/eagles/flyers/6ers win a fucking game. nice. (fortunately for us it's philly teams- so we don't get ~too~ much of it, haha!)

my dog freaks at fireworks too & tries to crawl up in between us in bed. not fun.

we also let them off in the back alley on the 4th. being a hypocrite is the american way! ;o)

They annoy me too! Someone was setting them off last weekend at midnight. Luckily, Andrew slept through it. They scared me because they were really loud and really close.

Absolutely do not like the fireworks. For two weeks leading up to the fourth I am constantly cringing over the sounds. It doesn't help that in our neighborhood we sometimes have to question if it isn't actually gunshots.

Ugh, I hate all the fireworks, it always sounded like we were being bombed when we lived in MT. My poor kitties would crawl around on their bellies for WEEKS! (really, it's Independence DAY, not Independence month & a half!)

And, well, I guess you can blame the m-80 in the can thing on me...

I am totally with you. I can't wait to bust out the fireworks myself but on Saturday night and not in town.

I don't care much for fireworks myself. My baby seems to be sleeping well despite them. But yeah, I'm just a bit scared of fireworks, don't like how late it is when people set them, and it's just a bit scary. I prefer the safety and the awesomeness of the big firework shows by lakes.

I'm with you on the fireworks before the Fourth is officially here. Especially since we had children and they get freaked out when it's the noisy kind that have no pretty lights.

So sorry to hear you got laid off. That totally sucks. That said, I'll tell you what my mentor once told me, "Good people do get laid off". Hang in there.

I'm fine with it for one night but that is it. I mean we like lighting stuff off too! But my dog just does not deal well with the noise, and when he barks and barks and barks guess who else wakes up.

We enjoyed our show as well as our neighbors'. For the most part, our neighborhood was finished lighting off fireworks around 10:30. There were a few outlying areas that still had them going off, but I'm not going to complain. I did it too as a kid. We light them off too on New Year's Eve.

Next year I might consider giving our dogs something to calm them down.
