The question and answer videos!!!

Okay, the videos were too big so I hosted them elsewhere. To see them, just click HERE and you can see both videos. I broke them up in two.

Warning - they are boring. And I'm just not that interesting at all it seems. I can hide all I want behind typing, but you see the real me on a video.

~biopsy~

I got some preliminary information. And it's not that good. Let me try to explain by drawing what the doctor drew for me. Here is the spectrum of cervical results ...

Apparently most people who have an abnormal pap smear fall into this one little place on the sprectrum on the cervical results chart...

Now, to explain where I am, let me talk about cervical dysplasia. From the literature, "Cervical dysplasia is a term used to describe the appearance of abnormal cells on the surface of the cervix, the lowest part of the uterus. These changes in cervical tissue are classified as mild, moderate, or severe." ...

"Mild dysplasia is the most common form, and up to 70% of these cases regress on their own (i.e., the cervical tissue returns to normal without treatment). Moderate and severe dysplasia are less likely to self-resolve and have a higher rate of progression to cancer. The greater the abnormality, the higher the risk for developing cervical cancer." So, knowing my luck lately, guess where I am? Ding~ding~ding!!! If you guess this, you are correct! ...

Adding in the + hpv for the high risk cervical cancer strain, the lesions are more likely precancerous.

The next step was the Colposcopy. "Depending on the severity of the dysplasia, results of the HPV test, and other risk factors, colposcopy is the next step in the diagnostic process. Generally, a colposcopy is performed if the cervical cells are distinctly abnormal."

So we did that. And "if abnormal cells are seen, a biopsy is usually done." Guess what? Yeah. So a biopsy was done.

We are now waiting for the results to confirm the Stage III dyplasia and to see if the cells may already be cancerous or simply in their precancerous stage. The next steps will all be dependent on the results. These should come in Friday and I will let you all know my prognosis.

Jesus Nancy, (I haven't watched the videos yet -- I had to respond right away)

I'll be thinking of you incessantly. I wish you lived closer -- I'd bring you food at least...

I hope you're taking good care of yourself.

XO

Love,

Pam

Well, crap. You are having pretty crappy luck aren't you? I am hoping things come back with the best prognosis possible.

balls! I'm sorry!

My SIL had this too, i'm not sure, but i think hers was in the Moderate level and they ended up going in with a laser and burning the stuff off. It was found after her 2nd child was born.

You are so lovely. You have such a sweet demanor when you see the video -- I mean we KNEW that but I love to see it -- and you said hi to me -- TWICE...(smiling). I told you right that the boys love shellac right? Including the third grader. It's crazy -- G had his days of going to lots of shows -- and wishes he'd gotten a tattoo -- he has perfect arms for it -- as do you -- I love sleeve-tattoos -- I'll always remember a student where I taught - she was so pretty and had both arms sleeved -- hot! (Not that I was looking of course because that would be inappropriate ... hee ..)

XO

Nancy, I am sorry. That is scary news. I am hoping that the worst you'll need is a LLETZ or cone (resection of the abnormal part of the cervix- with clear margins of nrormal tissue), or *even better* the biopsy taken today gives better news than it sounds right now.

The universe would surely not be ironic or cruel enough to even go the hyst route after you've just been sterilised, would it?

I'll be thinking of you,

xx

I haven't seen the videos, either (yet).

Shit. This sucks. Majorly. Hopefully things will come back better than expected and the biopsy will have cleared a lot of it up. (That's what happened with my moderate dysplasia.)

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. My sis had the same situation and they lasered the cells. That was almost 20 years ago and she's fine - they never came back.

You're in my thoughts -

jenn said...

Oh fuck. I am hoping for better news after the biopsy. This shit just isn't fair. xoxoxoxo

Thinking of you. Sorry you keep facing all these health issues. I hope for better news than you are expecting.

Lauren said...

I also had the Stage III cervical dysplasia. The doctor told me it was "Carcinoma in situ" meaning cancer in place. I had the colposcopy, followed by the biopsy, then a LEEP procedure to laser of the offending cells. After that, my paps have remained normal. So hopefully, you will find the same results. Apparently cervical cancer is very slow progressing and easy to treat. I wish nothing but the absolute best for you!

Miss Tori said...

What the hell is up with all this medical crap befalling you? Seriously, enough is enough!

I'll say a prayer that the results come back negative.

By the way, on a previous post you said something about men not reading your blog. Um, yeah, my DH does on occasion.

I'll be thinking of you and I hope things turn out better for you!!! Just had a follow up Pap and still came back abnormal but not NEARLY as bad....best of luck to you! take care :)
