Introducing ... The Mod Squad.

Out of the 15 eggs, only 9 were mature.

Out of the 9, all 9 fertilized through ICSI. 100% fertilization rate.

Funny, I kept saying 9 and that's how many little embies I have. It's amazing the love I suddenly feel over my little embies that are being frozen as I type this.

I'm still in a lot of pain, but I've learned to control it. I have ~lots~ of free fluid in my abdomen, so when I lay down, it goes with gravity. Having that fluid up by my lungs/shoulders is outrageously painful, as there is no place for it to go. So, I've found sitting straight up keeps it all in my abdomen where there is room for it to sit. I'm drinking TONS of gatorade (thanks for the suggestion!) and hopefully it'll get absorbed quickly. It's so painful, I literally cry out when I tried to lay down. Overwhelmingly painful. I don't think this is normal, as I've never heard anyone else talk about it, but my nurse doesn't seem concerned. We'll see.

Welcome to the world Mod Squad.

Nancy...
I am so incredibly happy for you and your Mod Squad. May all the love in your heart be enough to see those little embies through the thaw and transfer, when you get their home all cozy and ready for them. All of my prayers are with you and them.

I'm so sorry for the pain- but so very excited about 100%!!! 9 is a fantastic number & welcome to the Mod Squad! I hope they enjoy the chill & thaw beautifully into a nice cushy cozy home!

I remember th shoulder pain after my surgery so I definitely empathize with you on that- I hope it's gone soon!

Yay! Nine is great and what a fert rate!

I know I was told to drink lots of gatorade and eat salty foods. My doctor suggested salt and vinegar potato chips. They were nasty, so I opted for the packed with sodium frozen food route...

And, seriously. If you needed a drive. I would have. I can't imagine having my hubby leave in the middle of it and me waking up without him.

Feel better soon!

Congrats on the 9 that is terrific!!!!!
It sounds like you have OHSS which causes massive fluid retention.
I hope you feel better soon.

Yay!!!! This truly is wonderful news (minus the pain thing....ouch! I'm sorry). Take it easy for the next few days, and I hope what sounds like OHSS goes away quickly. If you stop peeing with all that gatorade you are drinking, definitely call the nurse!
~hugs~

The fluid is usually a symptom of OHSS and it can be dangerous, but if your nurse isn't concerned, I guess it is okay? If you have a lot of fluid, a lot of times they will drain it for you (I'm picturing a big, scary needle)-at least according to what my clinic does.

9 embies is excellent! Now we just need to get you back to normal and get that lining all cushy. Feel better soon!

Nine DOES sound great.

You know when they overstimulated me on an IUI cycle I had a very, very uncomfortable few days...and I drank gatorade and ensure -- which generally I think are nasty -- but for some reason the proteins supposed to help too.

I hope you're better soon (and selfishly, I can read through the process and become better acquainted with it so if this is the next step for me it doesn't seem so freakin' scary to me...)

Hugs,

Pam

Congrats on the 100% fertilization rate. That is fabulous.

Has your doctor diagnosed you with OHSS? I had it really bad during my fresh cycle. I had the pain your describing, plus trouble breathing. I ended up having to go in to have the fluid aspirated twice because it wouldn't go away on its own.

I don't want to be preachy, but when a derby girl descibes something as "overwhelmingly painful" it makes me think twice. ; )

Maybe if your pain continues or gets worse, you should call your doc again? Hope you're feeling better soon!

Hi Nancy-
My first IVF was terrible as well (June 06)- I found out at my 2nd cycle (a year later) that I was given way too much meds the first time, thus the reason for the pain, but I guess you have to start somewhere. I was supposed to do the 2nd cycle Oct 06, but I still was not back to normal yet, so we had to scrap it. It took really 4 months to get back to "normal"- I hope it does not take that long for you. Anyway, my 2nd cycle (with a different RE)- was so much better!!!! Amazing how different it was. Although you are in pain, and may have to wait a little bit, I do believe that you would have better success with doing the FET with your body "normal" then trying to push it now. When I look back on it, I feel that is why I had no "BFP" from that first cycle, b/c my body was so out of whack. So, as hard as it is - try to be patient. Your fert rate was fabulous.

We did 2 fresh cycles, and one frozen, unfort- we had 2 miscarriages- thinking about trying one more time. I believe that age is my issue ( I am 40). With your age, and the fert rate, I just feel in my heart you will be successful- just may take a couple of months longer. Also, you may want to consider 3 instead of 2 on your transfer.

Best of Luck.

100% fertilization rate...that's terrific!! Nine sounds like a great number to me.

I've never heard of pain like that after an ER either, but I'm guessing the nurse probably knows best. I felt only relief after my first one, but after the second I felt some annoying pain for about three days. It felt like I'd been bruised on the inside...very unpleasant. Hope yours goes away very soon!

9 embryos. I like that number. 9. that's a good number. I think it is a good sign! :) Also - 100% - well that's a freaking fantastic number! Yay!

I love that your heart is already so attached to your little mod squad. It is really sweet.

I hope you feel better soon....(hugs)

I had OHSS for my first IVF as well and it was terrible. I called my clinic and told them but they were also not very concerned.

So when I had it again this time (milder but still) I didn't bother calling the clinic because of their lack of concern the first time.

The Gatorade really did help though. And some chicken noodle soup too.

glad to hear of the fert rate, sorry to hear about the pain and excess fluid, i had that shoulder pain, but only after my laparotomy, and i was told it was all the trapped gas, because they had cut me open.
Well, keep weighing yourself everyday, and if your gaining all kinds of water, call the clinic, don't want you to suffer from OHSS.
