I know how excited everyone is to read simply bulleted lists of boring general updates, so that is ~exactly~ what you are getting! Yay for you!
~ I was in my funkitude again this past weekend, but I'm coming out of it. In fact, I feel quite great today. I have made a choice to focus on all the things that rule in my life. My husband is awesome. My kids are cute. My job is, well, I have a job. Karl is doing quite well in my belly. I just have been focusing on some things that were completely out of my control. And in looking at it further, I was really focusing on things in the wrong way. Let's just say the wool had been pulled over my eyes for quite awhile and it took me some balls to simply lift it up. There's nothing like the right perspective to really help things. Everything is going to be just fine. I now know this for certain.
~ I've lost weight. Very, very bad. I am normally 5'8" and 145 lbs and was up to 157 when I got my BFP. The 12 lbs was due to treatments, but we were counting them as pregnancy pounds. As of today, I was 158 lbs, down 2 lbs from 2 weeks ago. The problem is I don't eat when I'm in my funk. Poor Tom has to force me to eat by explaining the baby needs it. And I know that but it wasn't helping. He made me a sandwich on Saturday which I forced down. On Sunday, I ate a donut. No, two donuts. I don't think I even ate anything yesterday except a cookie. And it's 12:46pm today and I haven't eaten. I'm taking my vitamins, but I need to get some calories down. Since I'm feeling emotionally fabulous today, I hope this will be changing. I brought it some yummy soups, so in a few moments, I'll go heat one of those up. I'm definitely not feeling hungry, but I'll do it for Karl.
~ I think I finally got everything I needed for the baby's arrival, as the moses basket came yesterday. Now it's all up to getting our new carpet installed (scheduled for the 28th) and then I'll get to set it all up. The room is already painted a light baby blue, so I don't really have much to do. I may change the curtains and get an area rug, but we'll see how it all turns out.
~ I have another NST/BPP scheduled tomorrow. Although this cord issue I have is scary as all hell, getting to see Karl every week is exciting. And where I live, the official "geddes keepsake" 3D u/s site is actually my doctor's office. So the tech is actually the tech for the other company and it's the same machine. So she always sneaks a few 3D u/s pictures for me. Coolio.
~ I'm going to schedule my official 3D u/s here soon. I'm 26w this friday and I think I used to get them around 27/28w. Although lord knows I have enough u/s pictures of this special IVF/FET baby, the 3D package is still something special. And plus, I got it done with the 1st two, so that means I have to do it for this one. All you first timers take note - if you go overboard with your first, you are automatically going overboard with each additional baby. With all I have to pay with daycare and u/s and photo shoots and bronzed shoes, I'm going to be living in a van down my the river in no time!
~ THANK you all for your comments to the induction post and for all who answered my IF poll. (there is still one day left to vote!) I'm going to be doing something with that shortly.
My goodness, that was all baby related. Sorry about that. So, for anyone who's gotten this far, let me end it with a question.
If you had to pick losing one of the following senses, what would you choose?
a) hearing
b) taste
c) touch
d) smell
e) sight

Taste. Hands down. Then maybe I would stop eating uncontrollably.
I am sorry about your funky state of being. For your sake, and Karl's, I hope you have an enjoyable eating day!
Though it would suck, hands down I'd lose smell. No more smelling people's B.O. or bad breath...but also not knowing where I had B.O. or bad breath would suck too...but that's my choice for sure.
HI,Nancy i just wanted to say that i have been following your blog for a while now,i was on the boards with you for a short while and you got your BFP a little while after i dreadfully made it to the 12month board. All the girls are awesome there as you know, but i wanted to say that i love reading what you write and you always have intersting topics, also the adivse you give is also great.
My answer to your question is smell.
Nicole
I guess I'd give up taste.
I'd get rid of taste, it's not a neccesity!
I would choose to lose my sense of smell...I don't have much of one anyway, except when I'm pg.
And have you thought smoothies for weight gain? Lots of nutrients and calories packed into something that tastes pretty darn good and doesn't tend to make people nauseous? I don't know. They worked for me during first tri when I couldn't stand the thought of ANYTHING. And you wouldn't have to slug down but one or two to really make a major difference in the amount of calories you're consuming. Just a thought.
Glad to see things are going well. Sorry you had a funky day again. I hope that this good days lasts and things keep on track for you. But dont feel bad about it because we all have our days. Have you thought about drinking the Carnation stuff when you dont want to eat. I think that is what its called. I need to lose some pounds maybe I should not eat and start drinking that hmmm. Just kidding. Well kinda haha. So glad you are ok. Miss your posting alot. Its funny even though we dont talk and only have that couple of times I truly feel like I know you.
As for the senses thing. I would say smell. But I def think I would miss the smell of a clean baby after a bath or my husband but I would get over it. All the other things I think I would be crazy without.
Taste or Smell.....
My brother lost his sight at 8 and his life now is rough....he's a little slow and with being blind to he is limited and can't find a job (he'll work for free! Just hard to find something he can do independently)
not in the water ... I almost didn't even put sight in the list - that's why it's last! But it looked like I forgot a sense so I added it in.
Your poor brother to have lost it at 8. ~hugs~
Smell.. I have always had a hyper sensitive sniffer and well, that sucks.
Plus I work in a special ed high school.. most of those kids stink.. LOL. I am constantly giving them the shower lecture!
I hope you feel better soon and that the eating resumes.
I'm so glad you are feeling better & coming out of the funk. Maybe the smoothie thing would be good for you- you could add protein powder & whatnot to get as much in as possible...
As for the senses- I would lose smell hands down. Especially now- I am always sensitive to smells, but I gag at the littlest thing these days!
Sorry you're in a funk. Hope you get out of it, and I sure hope you've eaten something today!
As for your question - I'd give up taste. No second thoughts there for me!
Glad you are feeling better. I hear ya about not wanting to eat. Even since my D&C food sounds gross. Yesterday I only ate a granola bar, a half piece of chicken, and some peas. Food=gross for now. However I have lost a ton of weight about 24 pounds since everything has happened.
To answer your question I would give up taste in one minute. Nothing tastes good anyways so why have it stick around.
All kinds of stuff going on, huh?
First of all, I've been having funks myself the last couple of weeks. And the same with the eating. Mine seem to be stemming from life stuff but I'm also a bit overwhelmed with baby stuff and getting things ready. I had the same thing with Aidan so maybe it's normal?
Second, I think I'd want to give up smell. Every thing else is too essential.
I would lose taste probably. I wouldn't want to lose smell becuase I love the way the girls smell after the bath. I would hate to lose hearing becuase I love hearing "i love you mommy". I wouldn't lose touch becuase I don't ever want to not feel a hug. And definately wouldn't lose sight becuase I would hate to not see my family! Awesome question.
I'm glad you are feeling better.
I would give up smell. Although, wouldn't that affect taste also?
Taste, so I could not be tempted to eat!
taste,
i hate most food anyway...
I would choose taste or smell. My dad lost his sight at age eleven, and although he is very talented and has adapted well, I hate the fact that he can't see my beautiful son.
That's funny Denise - I just had this exact conversation with my husband!
I'm glad you're coming out of your funkitide. :) I like happy Nancy! I'm in one of those really uplifting moods lately. It's like nothing can bug me.
How exciting that you get to see Karl every week--and even more exciting that you get lots of pics! Good luck at your NST tomorrow.
Thanks for the nice comment, by the way.
Oh, I'd probably lose taste. I was thinking smell at first, but I love smelling my baby. Well, toddler. :)
I'm glad that you're coming out of your funk!
I can't pick one of the senses to lose. Mayyyybe touch.
Sorry you've been in a funk of late - glad to hear you are getting your mojo back.
Re the senses loss thing - not sure I love all of mine but if I *had* to get rid of one probably smell...
Eat, Nancy, Eat!!!!!!
I'd lose my hearing. I'm deaf in one ear already, so I'm half way there. I can read lips and honestly sometimes I enjoy the silence. Although I would miss music, that would suck, but I'd much rather hang onto my sight, taste, touch, etc.
I hope you get over the funky state soon. **HUGS**
~Velma
I hope you continue to think more positively. Life is short, and life is good. Your kids will be grown up before you know it.
I would lose taste. I like tasting food, but I guess if I could smell it to make sure it wasn't rotten it would be ok. I'm certainly grateful for all 5 senses! (Ok except for in 1st trimester when everything smells and tastes gross.)
taste for me.
Then again, may people say I already lack taste!
I think I would have to pick smell. I noticed a lot of people picked taste so they wouldn't eat so much. For me it isn't taste that makes me hungry, it is smell. I can't even be around a lit candle that smell like brownies or sugar cookies without becoming a pantry raiding monster.
Definitely smell. Not to mention, losing smell will also affect my ability to taste. But, for sure, smell. Since I've been pregnant, it's a terrible, terrible thing. If it wasn't for the overly sensitive nose I may not still be getting sick from time to time.
I would definite;y choose smell as long as it didn't interfere with taste...
Hey Nancy,
I'm glad the funk is lifting. Perhaps I should send you some creme brulee with fresh fruit on top. I bet you'd like that, and it has LOTS of calories!
Hmmm, not sure which sense I'd want to lose if I had to. I think I'd have to say smell, as that would save me from all of DH's stinky farts! lol Of course, he denies them and blames them on the dog.
Take care.
