Santa and Children (children obv mentioned)

Why are children ~so~ afraid of Santa? I shouldn't generalize that into "children", but why are so many children afraid?
Ella is 3 1/2 and this is the first time she would go to Santa. Allison was all ready to go, but freaked the hell out once she actually approached Santa. He was super cool, saying he can stand behind his big couch and poke his head out while the kids are on the couch - they wouldn't even know he was there - but there was no way Allie was going to get on that couch. Look at it! It's scares me looking at it now.
So here is the 2007 Santa picture. I'm going to try to get Allie photoshopped in. :)

That was sweet of the Santa to offer to hide!

WOHA!! I just realized that was the couch, That’s the ugliest couch I've ever seen, something from a nightmare movie. I wouldn’t sit on it either. Can you photoshop a better couch and back ground in there too? Yikes.
It does make me crave a candy cane thought.

What a cutie she is! Absolutely precious! And I don't blame her...I was terrified of Santa too. I can't tell you why I hated him, but I only took two pics with Santa when I was a kid and one was when I was a baby. The other was under complete and utter duress and thus I was never forced to go back again.

Something about Santa and clowns that's just, well, Bleh. :)

I think that would be so cool if you photoshopped her in! Post it if you do :)

I think it's the beard. Anyone man with facial hair sends LaLa hiding behind my skirt in fright. I'm sure I wasn't like this at her age but then again maybe I was!

Your daughter's a dolly btw, so cute :)

What a cute picture. You are right though that Santa is a little intimidating. I haven't even tried to take Carter yet and don't have any expectations. I think it is normal for this age. I remember I was scared of Santa too. I guess the thought of this guy coming into your house while you are sleeping can freak any kid out. Good luck with the photoshopping Allie in.

Ella is too cute! I'm with Allie though...what ever happened to the chair Santa used to use? Much less scary.

Wow Ella's getting big!

Maybe it's the big beard that frightens children??? Now, that is just a guess but I think maybe it's not something they are used to seeing on a man. A fear of the unknown I guess. Anywho~ that was a great pic of Ella with Santa!

barring the use of some REALLY GOOD DRUGS, who wouldn't be afraid of that crazy old man stranger with the long white hair & funky clothes? And that couch??? I'm afraid of it, and I'm a grown ass woman!

Ella is precious, perched on Santa's knee, tho!

I can't believe how big Ella has gotten! She looks so grown up. What a cutie. I don't know why kids are so afraid of Santa--maybe it's all the red? I always loved Santa, but I've also seen a lot of my little cousins scream their heads off when they get close up to him!

Precious picture!

I remember trying to back my nephew into Santa (the "elves" were coaching me) so we could get a picture. Can you say disaster? Hahaha! That kid had some lungs on him!!!

Super cute, but yea, I hated Santa - hated him! I wonder if I'll even do that to mine, cuz of how much I STILL remember hating him:-)

I remember reading research on this one time. They actually identified parts of Santa that make him a fear-evoking stimulus: being a Stranger, being loud, having facial hair, and being large are the ones I remember.

Santa is like putting babies in Halloween costumes, it really is more for the adults than the kiddos! (But, I know I WILL want Santa pics!)

thanks for your comment...i just wish they (the doctors) had more time and patience to explain these things to me.
