Now it is definitely NOT funny.

Allison (my 3 1/2 year old) comes out of the bedroom ~freaking~ out. I couldn't understand her. Finally I heard the words "I swallowed a penny!". And she was holding her throat screaming "owwie!".

I felt her throat. I could feel it. I look at Tom. Who do I call?

"911, where is your emergency?"

The 911 operator was awesome. In 3 minutes, my living room was filled with two firemen, two EMTs and a policeman.

The coin had dislodged itself and by the time she was being examined, it was no longer felt in the throat nor was she complaining of pain in her upper chest. But since it got stuck, they piled me and Allison in the ambulance and off to the hospital we went.

The xray showed it safely in her stomach and it should pass. Thank God.

Okay, when I said "what next?" - I did NOT mean anything with my children. Leave them out of this great big joke of a life I'm having medically right now. I will continue to take the brunt of anything getting thrown at this family, okay? I don't want to share this time.

Oh that must be so scary for a mom, I have to say as an EMT, I hate those calls just because it is scary for the family and I kind of want to laugh just because kids do funny stuff...

I'm so glad that she's OK. I can't imagine how scary that was.

Yeah, Karma needs to back off the kids. They're too young to have pissed her off. Actually, Karma needs to back off you, too.

Oh Lord, I'm glad Allison is ok. I hope it passes safely and soon. My Lydia swallowed a penny when she was 2. We waited over a week and it never passed. They had to remove it by laproscopy(sp?). Took maybe 5 minutes. I now have the penny and her x-ray in shadow box on her wall. What a memory! Will pray for your life to calm soon.

That is the scariest. I hate it when things happen to little ones. My son broke a bottle of tobasco sauce and was eating it and we thought he swallowed a piece of the glass. the ER staff was impressed with him handling the spicy tobasco sauce since it burned his skin all over, but I was terrified. They had to x-ray him and I had to stand outside and listen to him cry because I was pregnant.

You definitely need a break from medical emergencies for a while. They need to stay away from the kids for sure.

Oh my - that is really scary! I am glad she is okay and the penny will pass.
My sis stuck a penny up her nose once. A lot of blood, but not nearly as scary as swallowing one and it getting stuck.
Maybe you need a vacation.

Oh no!! How terrifying! I can't even imagine how you felt. Those few minutes waiting for the ambulance must have felt like an eternity! Glad she's ok and hope she passes it easily and no more drama. Hope your back is feeling better, too.

I'm glad she's ok! I swallowed a marble when I was little & I remember it really freaked my mom out!

The dr said it's pretty common though & not always so "safe". He'd had a kid who swallowed an open safety pin!

Hopefully it'll pass soon & this will probably scare her enough that she won't do it again. (worked on me!)

ENOUGH already with the trips to the hospital! Your family has their quota for the year!
