Oh good lord.

Remember all of that "assvice" I spoke of below? I ran into a comment from the assvicer talking to someone else to say how I should be ignored. How, with my negative thinking, no amount of doctors, medicine or IVF will get me pregnant. How I'm in for a surprise of a lifetime by not taking her "just relax" assvice.

She went on and on an on about me being so negative and full of "ill will" (and I was NICE in my response to her. Could you imagine if she got a true taste of my sarcasm??) How I need to be ignored and let people understand the power of positive thinking.

Then this woman (from here on out referred to as the Secret Loon) dribbled on and on and on and on about "The Secret". How powerful it was and how it made her life so wonderful. (She's 41 now. If she just figured out how to be happy, wow, that's a lot of years of suckdom).

Secret Loon said "The Secret": 1) allowed her to meet her soulmate 2) got her a dream career and 3) got her pregnant. NONE of that possible without The Secret.

Okay, I haven't read "The Secret" but if this gist is about positive thinking, hasn't that been done already? I mean, don't we already know if we think negatively and allow our actions to respond to our negative thinking, negative things will follow? If you don't think you can get the job so you don't apply for it, guess what? You aren't going to get the job. But think positive and apply and damn it, you may very well get it. So please tell me, how is The Secret new? I'm sure it puts a new spin on things, but when it comes down to it, is there really a secret at all?

I can tell you this, someone who doesn't ovulate isn't going to make follicles appear with positive thinking. Applying to be a sports illustrated bikini model when you aren't in shape isn't going to result in a call back because you think positively about it. Good things will happen when you work for what's in reach. Even what's just out of reach at times.

I'll tell you a secret. The guy who wrote that book is laughing his way to the bank. But shhhh. It's a secret.

Ha, I love it! I think you are a magnet for these can't take any opposing opinion weirdos.

I've gotten "The Secret" assvice before. From more than one person. Although I believe that negative thinking is not good for your life in general, I don't believe that positive thinking will get your pregnant.

I'm still trying to understand how her positive thinking ties in with her negative talking about you...

Don't you just love those types?

Excuse me while I go make my ovaries work just by positive thinking. I mean, that 3 months of Clomid couldn't do it....but dammit, positive thinking will. LOL

Isn't the Secret the one that is associated with that cult? Or something like that, I am sure that it is from something that is not quite legitimate. I believe that it is their way of trying to break into the mainstream.

I hate the freakin' relax assvice. I even listed it as one of the most hated pieces of assvice in my post on Creme de la Creme. You are certainly not full of "ill will" Nancy. You've given me some of the best advice during TTC (not assvice) and I appreciate it.

I could not agree with you more. I cannot believe that this saga has continued! I thought she might have realized that even though her intentions were good, she did hurt some people's feelings. I cannot believe that she is now attacking you for having your very appropriate feelings! Also, the fact that your feeling were shared by other did not seem to matter!

Hopefully the madness will end soon. I will try and do my part...

I've read the Secret (library copy). Just to say I thought it was crap with authority.

It's crap.

Nowhere in there is putting people down, lack of compassion, negative thinking toward others, etc. part of the principle. In fact, based on the book, thinking these things about others would bring them back to you by this "law of attraction." So she would be in for a total lack of compassion and judgement.

There are elements that are useful (appreciation for what you already have, trying to keep a positive outlook when the going gets tough), but other than that, it's exactly the kind of tool that parts fools and their money.

LMAO....gotta love ya nancy! After reading your previous blog, I realized that I was one of the ones who always said chill, and it will happen. Now, I want to slap myself. Maybe it's the not knowing what to say part, then later you realized what ya said was stupid...i dont know. Now that I am 7 cycles into this, and by no means is that a long time or anything to worry about, but it's still 7 months, ugk...I now realize what it feels like to have people say to you what I used to say to people..does that make any sense? lol
Anyways, thanks nancy...sometimes your blog is like my daily horoscope- I take it into advice and live by it. :) And no matter what anyone says about you...your honesty, sarcasm, and bitchiness is exactly what i heart about you! It's what makes you Nancy.

One of the many reasons I'm glad to NOT fit in on those sparkly-blinky-kittens-and-bible-verses-signatures boards.

Blurgh.

I love your Secret Loon idea. I know a few of those too...

Wow, if all it took to get my husband's sperm to the outside world was positive thinking then I'd be about 40 grand richer. Some people are just lame.

It will never happen for you. Your two children should cry daily they have you for a mother. How sad... You need to stopped!

oh I HATE "The Secret" bullshit.

It ranks right up there with 'when you relax..." F**K you man, relax? This is BIOLOGICAL. If I relax it won't improve my husband's sperm count you ninny.

*sigh* see what I mean? Tiny bit emotional about it.

why don't you speak the truth - that woman never once wrote the words "relax" - not once!

Anon- are you living under a rock? Or is English just not your cup of tea?

She said "just let it go", which, last I knew, mean to stop worrying about it and relax. Then, we had a conversation about the exact terminology of "just relax".

Are you ~seriously~ trying to talk shit about to me about symantics? (fyi - since you may need some help with that word, try www.dictionary.com )

Have a great day! :)

You could have helped her out a little better--it's "semantics", unless you meant Symantec, the anti-virus and other software company ;-)

It's amazing to me how things get so intense when the general subject matter is people offering the best they have to offer, lame or not, to someone else. I'm inspired to rewrite "The Little Drummer Boy" Christmas Carol. Let's see, something like:

...
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
...
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
...
Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum, On my drum?
Mary nodded sarcastically, pa rum pum pum pum,
Play your drum? A DRUM???!!! How fucking lame, get the hell out!
Bring in the next person with gold, pa rum pum pum pum

Ok, it doesn't rhyme that well, I'll work on that.
